    No, you *can *do it. In the same way you can build a 32h 4x.

    The logic against it, is that the spokes will be lying too horizontally*.

    As far as I'm concerned, the conventional wisdom is 24h = 2x or less, and on the rear more crosses = good. Therefore, if it were me I would build it 2x. End of. Plus it sounds like you have spare spokes the right length for a 2x - but even if you didn't 24 x £1 = not a fortune.
