Got one of these Salter 503Orsscr Gourmet Oven Thermometer With Silicone Grips: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home - had it ages. Still works and is accurate.
One tip - don't leave it in the oven when you aren't using it as the glass gets dirty over time making it hard to read (but oven cleaner takes care of that problem).
