  • You're welcome to borrow my rear wheel and powertap for a while Tom.

I wish my lungs would HTFU.

  • that is what I mean :) much rather do it geared, plus yours talks to garmin so pretty graphs on strava. work's spoiling the rest of my week but may try and grab your wheel next week for a run, dan.

  • Ah, but Dan's is 88mm crabon, for that aero advantage, whereas mine is some generic alloy clincher (covered in "CycleOps Demo Wheel" stickers)

  • Tub hasn't rolled off yet...just say when you want it.

  • might have to come down next time (quite possibly when it's drier) but I'm pretty certain <58 will need a bit of traffic-luck.

  • Ah, but Dan's is 88mm crabon, for that aero advantage, whereas mine is some generic alloy clincher (covered in "CycleOps Demo Wheel" stickers)

but that doesn't affect power output, only the efficiency at which it is transferred to forwardness.

  • What speed do you drop to on 84" ascent?

  • My 25mi times on the WLC 114 course are all within 2-3 minutes using anything from the S-Works with 'not so aero' Ksyriums and normal kit to P-X Stealth TT bike w/ proper position, aerobars, 808s, skinsuit, pointy hat, overshoes, etc.

  • Think I kept it above 10mph. Will check when I plug Garmin in. I'm faster up both climbs fixed than geared, because I get lazy and wuss out on gears :( on 84", I recall cadence is 4x speed, so that's a bit of a grind.

  • That is the definition of pain right there. I do hope your in the saddle?

Do you make appreciably more effort on the S-Works than the P-X, or is it much of a muchness?

  • ^^saddle up the drag, out of it for the last bit. out of the saddle at start and end of short sharp one with a sit-down in the middle. not hammering up them, gentle, letting the pedals turn themselves (slowly). If I pushed any real power up them I'd get to the top quicker but recovery would fuck me up so tend to go easy.

  • I used a combination of sport tracker live and my watch.

I started off from standstill at 1:36, and then finish at 2:40.

the result from the sport tracker read slightly differently, mainly because I've been trying to press "finish" due to the cold finger not responding well on the touchscreen.

the drop in the end is me trying to press the 'finish' button.

Using the combination of the datas, I'd says I done 1:04:30.

  • ...Wish I'd been out there geared =/

the familiar 'whommp whommp whommp' sound of the disc wheel coming from behind is very pleasant.

note to self: must get disc wheel.

  • Anyone else think that as Tom now has his fastest time as fixed then he shouldn't be occupying the top two slots?* Is first place not enough?

*Of course this has nothing to do with me recently being edged out of the top 3

  • love the aero bars on the brompton. Does it not get a bit wobbly? did you use them much?

  • Oh and bravo Ed, that is a top effort

  • love the aero bars on the brompton. Does it not get a bit wobbly? did you use them much?

First lap, not so much, but second lap end up using them more (especially on the descent) as i grew comfortable with it.

What I discovered that it's very unstable at low speed, once I go over 15mph the bike start to stablised itself.

Thank Bainbridge, was a little surprised as I'm expecting an 1 hour 10 minutes result, really kill on the hill as 6pt no doubt will tell you, he overtook me at lighting speed.

  • Sorry but still don't believe that....
19mph on a 20" hybrid in the kind of low temperatures and wind we've been having. I'd literally have to be there watching the whole thing, in a car to believe it

Looking at Ed's record thing, I make it to be about 1:04:50, so does this little jaunt look a tad more plausible to you now HÏnáta?
Also stuck mine on strava. Will edit list accordingly...

  • I reckon we fit 6pt with that drogue 'chute I posted earlier, a handicap system based on the current table seems fair.

  • 1:04:50 sound about right, will go back there again on the geared bicycle.

After dropping off the Brompton and picking up my geared bicycle, it never felt so comfortable and right to be on.

  • that max speed is topping you out Tom, you can get 40-odd mph down the big hill... man up on 90GI :P

  • even geared I don't tend to break about 35 going down it. and gearing up isn't an option but I really should learn to spin. I should have hit the last stretch harder, earlier, based on hr data hrumph. and I can see the hr slump on first lap where I had to take it easy due to popo.
