same here. been pondering sharing one with a few mates, think it would be more manageable if there's only 3 or 4 of you. It's also one of those things that are hard to price when renting it. getting rolls scanned elsewhere is usually a fiver, so if you rent one for say a tenner/day you need to scan at least 3 rolls which means you need to stock up on rolls and scan in bulk, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a scanner?

Glad I didn't just develop two rolls of film in fixer! Oh wait, yes I did. AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH
:*( Done a similar thing before, but my fault, got jugs of chem the wrong way round :s
Can anyone reccomend a supplier for 120 B&W film, need lots, iso100-400. I like Tmax but its all getting a bit pricey now (3.50+ a roll, more than 50p a shot!! more for 6x9). My 120 & 120 folder collection is growing rather rapidly and need more cheap film so I can use them more often.
I remember EFKE or something like that (from CZ?) used to make decent enough 120 film for cheaps? Anyone know where I can get some, or something else like it?
Just picked up (like the above) an Ensign 820 Selfix 'Special' (6x6 & 6x9 + RF) with Epsilion shutter + Ross Xpress 105/3.8 lens. Tis in minty fresh nick with a whole pile of high quality push on filters and lens hood.
Last week found an Agfa Isolette III (6x6) with the sought after 75/3.5 Soligo? lens and I thought that was nice, but this Ensign totally mops the floor with it, size, weight, build quality (and probably value).Internet searching seems to suggest the epic huge Ross 105/3.8 Xpress lens isn't the sharpest, but the rest is nice. Think they were trying to build a camera equiv quality to the German (IKONZeiss) and Swedish (voigtlander) competitors, and they certainly suceeded. Fit and finish is exceptional.
Hence I need LOADS of cheap 120 film, need to shoot shoot shoot these beasts :D

not BW at all, but i've got a fair amount of 120 ektachrome if anyone's interested? Most out of date but I've got great results from the batch which were all from a school

Brickman, though I haven't used it, LUCKY 120 film from China had a decent reputation. Its not Ilford, but its cheap, and I don't know of much negativity associated with it. A bit Lomo, if you know what I mean.
Shanghai GP3 maybe a more serious option for quality though. Again, I haven't used it. Some like it a lot, and others positively hate it.

Cheers GA2G, heard of Shanghai GP3 before and seems there have been some dodgy batchs around where the emulsion has almost de laminated or actually disintegrated during dev, but seems like a very small number affected.
Lucky is a new one to me! Just found someone is selling a whole bunch of Efke 120 R100 on the old fleabay, might bid for that, 43 rolls should keep me in film for a while :D
I'm also after a decent scanner, never owned anything you could describe as 'decent', just an Epson v300/700 flatbed, which TBH, is a flatbed in a fancy dress.

I remember hearing good things about Lucky when it was first out (or first being widely distributed), but not used it myself. there were some good deals on Rollei Retro a couple of years ago, found this while googling, might want to check they actually have any in stock though.

Brickman, Efke is definitely the better option if you can get it. I used MACO* also, once upon a time, but haven't seen it for donkeys now.
MrCad used to sell it, but I haven't been there is ages either.I really like it a lot by the way. Had very thin backing though.

PSA: Anyone after an Olympus XA rangefinder, get over to this fella's site...
http://www.rockycameras.com/rangefinder-cameras-43-c.aspHe has about 5 full fat XA's for under £50! Not sure what postage is, but site mentions 25% discount on stock when you buy in 'bulk' what ever that means.
Also a cute Olympus 35ED RF on there for £15! less than a round of drinks that!Might go for the pile of Efke R100 on ebay then, keep half for me other half back on t'bay :D
Reviews seem to suggest it is anything BUT a modern emulsion, made like they used to make it 50years ago, sounds dreamy :) -

10rolls of Rollei Retro for about £20 delivered sounds slightly too good to be true to me, I think its because when they launched it they threw it out to distributors for way under the normal asking and people have been a bit cautious of it, stuff I've seen on flickr suggest its a sick film though.
5 rolls of 120 for about £15 is good too.
And they do 127????? I thought 127 was long long long dead (digs out huge box of bakelite 127 snapshot cams and dreams of being a hipster next summer). -

i've used efke once or twice and plan to use it much more - it's not a 'modern' cheap film, but based on an old emulsion with loads of silver or something... really enjoyed it, very fine grain (efke 25), and what seemed to be a fairly wide exposure latitude. seemed to be a bit more delicate when developing though.
post some pictures if you buy that job lot, i've really liked the stuff you've posted on the thread so far.

Camera's are getting on my nerves. Plus all this digital shite thats going on now, makes everyone a photographer. Anywayyyy.
In the very near future i will be selling off
1x pentax with a nifty 50mm
1x Hassleblad 500cm body. inc Waist level vf and focusing screen - op/tec neck strap
1x Zeiss 80mm C planar. Broken (for parts or repair)
1x Canon 580ex ii flash gunand some other stuff. The point is Ive been trying to save up from a rf but my bike build got in the way as well as other stuff. I am planning to sell off some of my kit to get something. But what??
For a long time now, I have been playing with the idea of going with the leica but the price and the fact that i wear glasses most of the time doesn't help. So I looked into the Voigtlander R3m. The price is great, outstanding in fact, when compared to the leica m6.
But you get what you pay for. Im finding it hard to choose the right one.
Ive played with the m6 and the m9 but not r3m as yet. But i no if i decided to go down the voightlander path i will always be thinking about a leica....Some pictures from turkey. Pentax k1000.

Yannis, hit me up with 'blad. Take it the C planar is for 'blad? Whats broken about it, I might have a bash with it.
R3m is sexy, and I have same idea as you, trade up over time and hope for a Leica, but frankly would rather have the cheaper (but still amazing) voigtlander body and spend the rest on glass.
Discovered the other day that Epson & Voigtlander worked together to make a digital 35mm RF, can't remember the name, came out in about 2004/5 8MP (good enough), still go for about £750 though :*(Mate of mine has a Bronica 645RF camera (similar size & function to the Fuji 645RF) and the build quality is out of this world, far nicer than the Mamiya 6/7/7ii, fuji and voigtlander offerings, though there are only 2 or 3 lenses for them (60 ish, 80ish an 140?), they go for about £500 on 'bay. You get 15 shots on a 120 roll which is manageable :)

wussup brickman, The drive gear spring has broken in the lens which makes it unmountable and the aperture blades dont open. I have a passion for making pinhole camera's from odd bits i find, and i was toying with the idea of stripping the lens down and turning the lens into a camera, and using the blades as masks. But will be very sad to see it ripped apart.
The r3m is very dashing! Some leica owners see it as a silly copycat which is rather silly in it self. The voigtlander seems to have the lead so i may go for it. Maybe from ffordes. Glass always comes first, thats where the quality is. And the fact their both M mount is great.
Ah yes i remember looking at that the other day, The R-D1. Its very nice, seems like a good option compared to investing into a m9!
I love bronica's, so easy to use and simple. Partly the reason why i getting rid of my hass. Opting for the Etrsi. I never had a chance to use the 645rf, whats it like? I have got my hands on the fuji equivalent, its seemed very plasticy but that lens!..so damm sharp! Have you had a go with the voigtlander bessa iii?

(unless you want to pay thousands for a 9000)
For the last 2 years I've had access to a 9000, I weep knowing I can no longer use it - they're awesome. I also weep at the cost of buying my own scanner (even a 35mm is out of my budget at the moment).
-
• #3047
You mean those nikon 9000's are actually good?
My uni had a whole bunch of them and personally found they kept miss scannning (odd lines and mis aligned) and were slow as hell. Big ass hasselblad thing that had magnetic neg masks was my favourite scanner, quick, quiet and quality was out of this world, things were rumoured to cost £10k+ when new though, so would expect it to be all of those things :)
-
• #3048
Those Hassy scanners are the tits.
They get broken easily though, by fanny students who get impatient for example. The college I study at has a couple Coolscans sitting in a computer lab that probably haven't even been used for 3 or 4 years, I suspect that if I ever find myself alone in that lab that one of them might disappear.

I was almost in the same situation but luckily my uni lets graduates return to use the facilities. The Nikon Coolscan 9000 is a pretty good scanner, wish my uni would have let me take home one of the Coolscan 8000s that didn't work with the new imacs they got.

I'll need to check the models that are sitting there, could be incompatability but then I'm using an I'mac so wouldn't be much help.
I was thinking the latter. But I guess that'd be pretty messy should someone want out/go away/break something and all the other endless possibilities. All I know is that I could do with one of these in my life! Haha.
