Well done on the OP, restores faith in human nature. There's no doubt in my mind that the bike would likely have not been recovered had it not been for him.
I got knocked off a few years ago (in Luton) and was going to be taken to hospital, when I asked what was going to happen to the bike the old bill just said they'd have to leave it at the roadside. I ended up riding the 15 miles home with a busted elbow socket and road rash rather than lose the bike.
