• yea it is but it the repair ain't cost effective. as long as it's straight, leave it as is.

  • I was going to make a smarmy comment about inverse dent hammers or negative toptube expanders, but seeing how perfect that bike is with that dent made me sad. Maybe get the tube replaced, if you wanted to really have peace of mind?

  • get some body filer out and some wet & dry ;-)

  • Hi,
I have a big ugly dent in the top tube of my cross bike (crash damage from the last race of the season!) - its a PX uncle john.
The frame is fine to ride, but...i want to fill it and stick a sticker over where the dent was/is.
Going to get a black/white union flag sticker as off to race in Canada next season.

What filler should i use? where can i get it?

    Cheers, Chris.

  • Quite a few of Bob Dylan's albums are full of filler.

    Maybe try one of those.

  • Remember that the displaced metal will have created a swell (usually at the edges of the dent) so you'll have to *bash down those parts too. Use a metal epoxy and sand to smooth then paint with something. Then put the sticker on.

*not too hard and use a small pin hammer

  • many thanks, i just had a look at some metal epoxy on the net. ill get off to halfords then. I assume i need to remove all paint from the area for it to bond properly?

  • yup

  • and maybe prep the metal

  • some say that one has to drill a small hole opposite the dent; so that one can punch the dent out, from the inside, using a small punch

  • Remember that filler is porous so you'll need to use red oxide primer underneath it (in case any moisture gets through the topcoat).

You could also use molten lead, which is what they used on cars until the 1960s.

  • kicking myself after propping my bike up on overground, course the bike fell over and now I have a ding in the top tube and the seat tube... looks from advice as though the only choice is to grin and bear it!

  • Cool story bro

  • Bad rule.

What about girls you totally fall in love with? You never fear to lose them?

    Terrible rule...

    Thats the stuff of nightmares

If anyone has a dented top tube they'd like undenting PM me. As I bought a set of these because I love tools and hate dents. You'll also need access to a decent bench vice (I don't have access here in London so can't help with that bit). Be aware paint has to be removed from around the area of the dent and this is for steel tubes only.

  • Hi all I managed to dent the top tube of my 1992 ish Peugeot 531 Pro anything I can do?

Looks as though just a little pressure reduction might pull it out.

Gutted as was getting it ready to sell.

    All Help Welcome

  • Nothing you can do that won't cost ££££.

Brass fill means a repair and respray.

New tube means the same. Around £200.

When you sell it describe it as being just cosmetic, mark you price down by £30 or so.

  • nice frame

  • Thx For the replys

What Price you reckon I should put this up for?

57cm center to top - seat tube

56.5cm center to center - top tube

    Many Thx

  • That's nothing. I just bought a new MTB with a small ding in the top tube, I thought the £75 reduction was worth it! Doubt it will affect the price of a used frame very much.

  • Im just about to start my third Bike build.. Im building up a Vintage Vitus number...

heres the thing... THE FRAME HAS A DENT!

Someone has obviously done a crimp job on the back triangle to get a bit of clearance for the crank set... I want to get this dent braze filled ready for painting or powder coating..

WHO knows a really good frame repair guy? Someone or who paints and repairs? Would quite like it repaired and then powder coated...is this possible?

WHO has had a frame repaired recently and is really please with the job?
    I live in Vauxhall...

ADVICE who to visit who to avoid?

    Thanks

  • Mods should move this to the M&F forum.

  • Its steel... please feel free to move the thread to M&F..
