On the off chance this hasnt gone please let me know, I live in Brighton and could pick up no prob. I am specifically after a 22'or 23" 531 mixte for the missus. cheers
22" Claud Butler Special Mixte tourer. The "Special" is very similar to the Claud Butler Majestique designed to compete with the Dawes Galaxy, it was sold exclusively though F W Evans.
Because there's no stand-over issue mixte frames are more flexible size-wise: my girlfiend is 5'8", I am 5"11 and we can both ride it comfortably.
Specs as follows:
Reynolds 531 frame with Campagnolo dropouts and Tange chrome forks
Brooks leather saddle
Suntour VX GT front and rear mechs
Rigida aluminum rims, Campagnolo front and Maillard rear hubs
Michelin World Tour tyres
Sakae 50/39t chainset
Suntour 14-34t touring freewheel
Weinemann centre-pull brakes
GB alloy bars and stem
The components are in excellent working order, all bearings run smoothly, the wheels are true, the tyres near new, and there's barely any wear to the breaking surfaces.
The decals on the downtube are very tatty (I think the previous owner may have attempted to pic them off) - but other than that and a few chips the frame is in very good condition. Matching original decals are available from H Lloyd and the chips could easily be touched up to make it very smart - it certainly isn't a candidate for a respray.
Mixte bikes of this quality are relatively hard to come by - it would make an excellent everyday ride or could be used for some serious touring.
I'll include the original steel rack and Esge chromoplastic mudguards.
If I was a girl I'd keep it, but I'm not.
£170 collected from Hove, or I'll post for an extra £14
Dibs then PM please.
If you have any questions or would like to come and have a look/ride just send me a PM.
