It's 3 speed with prototype Sturmey Archer barrel adjust lever at the handlebar. Hard to determine frame size in the usual terms because whilst the seat tube can be measured, the bike is so upright that it's easier to say that the bike would suit riders of average height and above. Certainly your friend can look it over - but, apart from the gears, there is very little restoration required.
