  • zip tie.

    lots of fucking zip tie.

  • two small holes and zip ties?

  • is there any reason these:

plus nuts and bolts, wouldn't work? (plus rubber washers to stop it being rattly as shit?) looking for something a bit more sturdy than zip ties!

  • drill two small holes and inset zip tie.

    quick, easy, and robust.

  • Zip-tied wine boxes on bikes: for those who love action.
I would use steel plates inside the box and below the rack. Line up the holes, drill, bolt.

  • been pondering the exact same solution, i'm going with saddle clamps and wooden slats on a flat rack

  • It might be classy, but a wine box would be much heavier and less aerodynamic than a milk crate or Wald rack.

  • I need opionions on which is the best option for a front rack on my bike:

    Heres the bike:

    Heres the rack options:

  • Simple - whichever you think suit the bike.

  • i'd go for nr 2 or 3. sides enough to hold a bag but not as chunky as that box

  • I think no 2 requires eyelets midway up the fork, which my forks don't have.

  • You're going to need forks with a lot less trail, those straight bladed charge forks will give awful handling with a loaded rack

    I hadn't condisered that. Hmmmm...

true, but depends on how much load and how often. a bag of shopping every now and again will be just fine

  • I'm getting a gamoh today I hope so will report back. I can say that Wald 137 which I have used for the past few months is very nice, and works perfectly, not requiring eylets (bolts straight onto the axle).

  • ^ good option for lesser monies

    Don't forget low trail too.

I think I need a session with Dr. Sheldon Brown... I need to study the effect of this 'trail' you speak of...

  • i think you should just get a rack and enjoy it. then you can worry about rake if necessary

  • ok, so I've got the Gamoh king jr, first impressions are not great, it looks the bomb, but I can't see many reasons why anyone should buy it over a wald other than looks (and I suppose durability but I won't find out if that's true until I've used it for a while). I'll try and get up some pics and write a proper little review this week, there's some tricks I've learnt along the way that might be helpful to share

  • First impression is fuck me it's heavy! I put one on my trailer bike I use to pull the kids. Didn't keep it on very long. It's now collecting dust in the shed.

  • I'm going to put my 1992 Lapierre singlespeed porteur bike in the sales thread shorty so I thought I will put a picture of it in this thread beforehand.
It is a 53cm step through frame, big rack at the front, smaller rack at the back, 650B wheels, i've just given it a clean & service today. It'll come with two wooden wine cases.

  • Not a proper porteur, but inspired by them, this was my DIY alloy and pine front rack (total cost less than £10 at homebase) mounted on a no-name late 90s MTB. Was a quick, fun project and it worked pretty well. Somewhere I have better pics...
