Shimano RSX STI - changing inner brake cable

Numpty question, but need to change inner brake cable on left hand shifter and not sure how to get at it. I've UTFS all over the intrenet, and Shimano techdocs, but can't find anything? I've looked inside the lever but can't see where it connects. So is it -
1. remove cable from pinch bolt and pull out backwards
2. or something else
I'm wary of removing face plate as I have a feeling that would be completely unnecessary and lead to more problems. Any help appreciated
