If not then does hard and fast road riding, fixed or geared, followed by food and beer sound like something people might be interested in doing on a regular basis?

I cant comment on what those guys do or dont do but the concept sounds really good.

i would be really up for this, regular fixed urban adventure, sounds superb, hooowwwwlllll!!!!!!!

After a day in front of a screen I always want an hour-long blast through the back alleys... just doesn't have the same feel without a gang

It's going to be a lot harder to do this in London owing to the very much more fractious traffic environment. Presumably you will have participated in an alleycat, Slurd?
