Architecture isn't any more high brow than any other form of expression that exists beyond the purely functional.
If anything it's gestation is ponderous compared to other forms and the zeitgeist only exists on paper (or screen) as it lacks the immediacy of music/photography/art etc.
years ago i did the first part of my design/photography studies at Canterbury art college, there was an architecture school as well as fine art/printmaking/sculpture on the campus, only 2 architecture students lowered themselves to visit the union bar or canteen the rest were occasionally seen visiting a local wine bar.
i guess socialising with people wearing grubby jeans was not the done thing? hopefully things have changed since then or are they still a bunch of cunts.
