tLove the sound of the Yorkshire ride, but I've done too much travelling already this year to bike rides, so I may not make it along. Anyhow, at least we are offering retro rides at both ends of the country!

Anyone with an excellent memory able to help - two things i saw at l'eroica, that i really want, but didn't get at the time -
One was a nice Gs Gazzola jersey, think these are modern copies? anyone know the company selling them, pictured here:
https://picasaweb.google.com/103516038499036836792/LEroicaRetroBikeWeekend2011#5660517150922600642Second, opposite that stand, was a chap selling bike bags. Saw nice soft padded bag, where you took wheels off and the frame dropped onto built in dropout spacers, wheels in pockets either side, plus no need to take off handlebars either. Anyone heard of these?
cheers all, roll on 2012.

Diary Date for retro ride Sun Oct 30th. Meet Effingham Junction Station Car Park 10.00am
In order to keep the momentum going following L'Eroica, I suggest a Sunday ride on October 30th (clocks back weekend so an extra hour to get to the start!) I have ridden the route today. Like l'Eroica its very hilly, with lots of ups and downs, and some narrow roads. However its all on tarmac, but will be hilly and pretty, eg Ranmore Common, Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill, Whitedown, etc, on minor roads, some potholes/gravel to beware in places. Route is similar to the CTC Hilly 50km route. Pub lunch stop, maybe in Holmbury St Mary. Around 60km (Effingham to Effingham) but pace will be pace of slowest rider i.e. re-group at tops of climbs.
Meeting point will be car park at Effingham Junction train station, at 10.00am (Train from Waterloo at 9.02 gets there 9.50am).
If anyone wants to ride out to Effingham from Kingston, i will be riding out with Kingston Wheelers to Effingham (9.00am start, Laithwaites Car Park, Portsmouth rd/Brighton rd Junction).

Hi Guys
Finally got my l'Eroica video up,
I've really enjoyed the other movies, especially the guy who spent 16 mins filming, dragging himself up the Santa Maria, agony !
Brought back alot of great memories !

Neil, An awesome video. Was it all done on your Panasonic digicam or did you actually have a pro film crew following you!
On another note, is it just me or has anyone else still got all the Tuscan white road dust still on their bikes?!

I'm still keeping strade bianche splatter on my bike - from last year's ride :)

i haven't washed my bike and it is all in pieces. thick dust on it

Nice video Mr Snapper. All the dust was cleaned off my bike before my Surrey Hills recce ride last saturday, but I still have L'Eroica number on my bike-what a poser. My brown leather retro shoes were still white be with dust before that ride, however the pedalling round Surrey removed most of it! See separate thread for the Effingham ride. I will run it again in the Spring, with plenty of notice, and hope to keep fit riding similar routes over the winter, frost permitting.

Great video Neil... have been thinking of ways to justify the expense of Spaltenna for next year already, was a great few days. Me and Nick met you and Spintoofast on the terrace on your last day... we were already well into the Prosecco buffet! Actually that alone probably justifies it...

Shot it on Panasonic Lumix, great camera, really nice leica lens.
I did alot of walking (up hill) on this ride so I was able to spend more time videoing !!!
My bike is still covered in dust in bag also !

Hi Rossco
Yes I remember, the Prosecca tasted delicious in the Tuscan morning sunsine !
I think the only way I can get back next year is by bringing the family (made the mistake of showing them the pics !) , though we may have to downgrade the accommodation.
Anybody recommend a nice family room at a very reasonably price ?

i took my family. We went to resort olmo that is like an apartment it was 140 a night for 3 people, I think that they can put a bed at extra cost, it was like an aprtment with kitchen and a lounge and all that. you could alsouse the pool of the hotel beside that was great if a bit cold. Afterwards we went ot villa san't uberto, it wasn't great but it was ok. 80 for 3 people, I think that if you book a bit inadvance you can find cheaper options. peter V rented a cottage, I think, that may bey the best

Our appartment cost 480 for 6 nights, had 6 beds in 3 bedrooms, kitchen and living room. I loved it.

I'm still keeping strade bianche splatter on my bike - from last year's ride :)
I protested but someone I was staying with turned the hose on it - still in pieces and not put back together after travelling - this will be my first weekend off work since I got back home

Great pics, windy. So, how did you find your cyclocross tyres? I had a blast going downhill with my 35 front. I hardly used my brakes whilst my friends were going down with their 23/25 like little grandmothers.
The cross tyres were great - rode all the climbs and the 32c section and side nobbles gave confidence on the descents and corners.
