  • oh..no i didnt mean they were rude. Just funny to see their reaction to being overtaken...

  • Are you from the police...?
    No?

    Oh right.

    The sanctimony.

Neither are you, so we can all yell "RED!" at you just as much as we want.

  • RED!

    olcl

  • Just a thought; if this happened 3 times then either this 'bellend' is a lot quicker than you or jumping red lights doesn't actually get you where you are going any sooner.

Sounds like a good Harry Enfield sketch

    RED!

  • RED = new DAS.

  • T4 last night riding like a possessed Irish Massan...welcome to Tanyaframa

  • I know I may be construed as the bad cyclist in this scenario but...

To the lycra bellend cycling behind me from Surrey Quays to Greenwich.

Your disproportionate and blood curdling scream of "RED!" as I roll through a pedestrian crossing with no peds to be seen is frankly ridiculous.

At first I thought you had been hit and was concerned.

But then it happened twice more.

You are not in charge of the road and it's users.
    You are not the police.
    Fuck off.

I thought this was for calling out other cyclists, not yourself.

  • That Albino Koala died, Will! IT DIED!!!!!!!

  • Driving along fairly twisty forest road on Sunday morning. Group of riders on Sunday club run (around 30) come around the corner using both sides of road. I had to pretty much come to a complete stop as they clearly couldn't get themselves back in a bunch quickly enough to get on the correct side of the road.
I gave a little toot on horn to make a point and the riders towards the back decided to flick the Vs at me as though I had done something wrong. Am I wrong in expecting them to have actually made a sorry/thanks gesture for not actually running half the group over!

  • Sometime I like to take it easy, just to get to my destination.

Other time, I want to have fun, some people idea of fun is to simply ride, other is to cane it.

like William above me said, it doesn't mean I can't be a polite road user when hammering it.

I'm generally quite polite when I'm hammered

    RED!

  • Send a letter of complaint to the club captain. Which club was it?

I actually thought of that and then forgot all about it! Think I will do. It was a club that rides through the New Forest on Sunday mornings so can only really be one of 3

Apparently the man trying to teach you some road manners was called Matt...

  • why don't we have thumbs up smileys and such?

    good work btw.

  • Undercutting is a particular forte of the bad cyclist no...

  • More importantly, have you ever doen a naughty thing on a bike...thought that was stupid and then been shouted at for it because it was stupid...and THEN felt the silent hatrid of other cyclists who think 'you dick'! yeah!

  • What a find! Really would make my day seeing that.

Did the road have a white line in the middle?

you: i used the horn to make a point

    highway code:
    112

The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively.

so maybe he flicked the vs at you as if you had done something wrong because you did do something wrong

also that RED find made me do a big lol

Incorrect. Clearly they were not aware of his presence otherwise they wouldn't have been on the wrong side of the road en masse.

He just wanted to make sure they weren't deaf as well as blind.

  • well this doesn't apply to the particular bit i was talking about, but actually lots of the highway code is law. anything that says you 'should' do something is not the law (but i didn't say anything about whether or not he was breaking the law, just said he was doing something wrong). but any part of the highway code that says you 'must' do something is a law. that's why it quotes the relevant laws, eg the bit immediately after what i quoted:

You MUST NOT use your horn

    while stationary on the road
when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am

except when another road user poses a danger.
    [Law CUR reg 99]

  • also fair enough to use the horn if they weren't aware of his presence. i assumed from the way he said that he used it to make a point, that it wasn't just to make them aware.

  • A gentle toot of the horn is never gentle to the other road user.

How many of you react differently when someone toot at you?

  • If someone toots their horn because I am riding towards them on the wrong side of the road then I'd admit I was in the wrong and would gesture that.

I would not tell them to fuck off. I also find it hard to believe they did this because I was breaking some highway code advice on horn usage.

They were actually very lucky that it was me driving and not one of the many wankers who drive around the forest with general disregard to cyclist. I put it down to plain old group mentality on their part...
