I lived on a 48ft traditional narrow boat (Buffalo) moored up in Burton-on-Trent for the whole of last year - it was bliss.
I wouldn't worry too much about the cold - as you've noticed they heat up very quickly. I had a wood burning stove and even in the depths of last year's extremely cold winter I often had to open the hatches to let some heat out. I just got out quickly in the morning and wore a jumper (a few jumpers) in the evening until the stove heated up. I would imagine the gas heater heats a lot quicker than wood/coal.
Good news you have a saniflow type toilet as well. Buffalo had a pump out toilet - which got a bit tricky when the Marina froze up for over a month making it impossible to move the boat.
I plan to buy another boat as soon as I possibly can - nothing beats being cosied up in front of the wood burner as it rains / snows outside - love it!
Excellent!
