108mi if you get train to Farnborough. About 140mi from my place.

Braker did a 100 club ride on this route last year.

  • Fucking sign me up Dan, you know I'm itching to do that kind of route.

  • Hmm...seriously I could be interested if you didn't mind a fixed bird slowing you down...I've got leave to rinse out too if you wanted to go on a week day...let's talk!

  • I'd be riding fixed too.

Amazingly (according to Ed) I haven't riden a fixed 100 yet so it won't be you doing the slowing down!

  • Believe me Dan, it won't be as hard as it sound, in fact you'll be pleasantly surprised at how achievable it is on a fixie skidder.

Just need to wait to get my rust bucket shipped from the states though...

  • Thanks all for stellar company and organising yesterday, pictures are great Ed. I hope you're feeling ok.

  • Ladies

It was a pleasure and privilege to ride with you all yesterday. The resilience and commitment of all attendees was really impressive, especially from the first forum ride duo.

Keep on riding girls, you are an unstoppable force!

  • so this is what happen.

I was riding on the outside lane overtaking the stationary heavy traffic not abnormal for a Sunday, noticing that I've missed my turnoff, I proceed to get back onto the primary position and make a left turn.

I looked back, signal and make my move, while maneuvering halfway through to the middle of the lane, the vehicle driver behind me somehow decided to prevent me from entering the unoccupied lane, accelerated heavily almost clipping my front wheel in the process, I slapped my hand on the bonnet to push myself away from the offending vehicles and gain balance.

The vehicle driver braked sudden, perhaps in surprised at my respond, I changed back to the primary quickly, eventually the secondary to filter down the remanding two cars before turning right.

At that point the vehicle driver decided to accelerated furiously, overtake me, and then take a swing by ramming the side of his car again me, while closing the gap between the vehicle and the kerbs, basically a direct hit.

At that point I lost all control and ended up crashing onto the tarmac as the vehicle accelerated away attempting to flee the scene of a collison.

Luckily, he got stuck in your typical Sunday traffic, due to another vehicle in front of it waiting for the light to change, I gain balance, picked up my bicycle, and ran straight to the vehicle and placed myself in front of the bonnet.

This is when Sally called the police, of whom arrived less than five minutes upon calling.

I do apologised for holding you all up, especially after a great short ride to Epping and back, it's frustrating how that particular driver had some bad experience with cyclist before and decided that we're all the same band of misfit who go around terrorising motorists with their mere presence.

  • Oh Ed. You don't need to apologise for holding anybody up as it was the fault of that greasy prick so attractively profiled above, checking his wing mirror for the damage you might have caused to his motor through being run over. With a bit of luck he was so late to get home that he missed Strictly Come Dancing.

  • Oh my goodness! He deliberately ran you over! What an awful thing to have to go thorough, I really hope that you're ok.

Hopefully the guy will get charged for this as he clearly shouldn't be allowed to drive a car.

  • Thats really crap Ed. Sounds like the driver did not conduct himself properly at all.

  • Ha, you can see the bugger pushing his wing mirror back out which he hit you with.

Keep us posted of what's happening. I hope 'traffic' take this all the way, it's a serious assault I reckon!

  • Where exactly was this, Ed?

Glad you're OK and didn't suffer much further damage.

  • Lea Bridge Road I believe.

  • Thanks, T4. Stupid me, I should have recognised the buildings in the background, just somehow assumed it was further out.

  • Yep, Lea Bridge Road, end up going home from work early as my ribs was killing me.

I took all the impact, the bicycle didn't (only a scratch on the handlebar drop).

  • Have you been checked for broken ribs?

  • I have been checked by the GP, with 'possible fractured ribs" highlighted

    X-ray time.

  • Hmm...seriously I could be interested if you didn't mind a fixed bird slowing you down...I've got leave to rinse out too if you wanted to go on a week day...let's talk!

    same

  • Ed really sorry to read about your altercation with idiot car driver, heal up soon buddy.
well done forum ladies for making it real, hoping I can make it on the 5th Nov

  • Ed - hope you're doing ok. I broke 2 ribs (not cycling related) 3 years ago and it bloody hurts. They didn't bother with the x-ray (I already cost the NHS way too much money) and could tell they were clearly broken.

Ladies - when's the next ride? May I request that either it's a short one OR that it goes via somewhere I could dip out and get a train back if needed as I'm a little out of practice since the USA road-trip wonderfulness!

  • Right then ride schedule for November!

    Saturday 5th November**

Bitching Box Hill** - let's attack Box Hill! Now don't be alarmed....there is an easy way up Box Hill. I've done it - if you don't go up the zig zag road way the road climbs very gradually and the next thing you know, you're at the top of Box Hill. AMAZING. Really, please no one be put off as like I've said lots of times before, if I can get up a hill a) it isn't really a hill and b) anyone could do it.

Will post a proper route later in the week when I've done the recce but it will be something along these lines (cheers skive!) http://www.bikemap.net/route/424166

It's 23 miles or so from Brixton to Dorking, where people can get the train back into London if they want or ride back.

and on a skive tip let's all ride to cambridge on **Sunday 20th November **and rep hard for the ladies on this ridehttp://www.lfgss.com/thread74324.html

skive does an awesome job leading rides and people who have done this ride before have all said what a brilliant ride it is...flat too ; )

Go! Go! Spaghetti-o's! Oh, and any suggestions/volunteers to lead in December? Bring it!

  • Sounds good! Looking forward to the ride and will likely ride back.
