You realise that you are "not doing the programme" right? Well not strictly at least. SS is a beginner weight training programme designed to pack on as much useful muscle mass in the shortest time possible - in the most simple way.
This involves more than a bit of gluttony. Focusing so hard on staying lean and restricting diet will kill the longeivity of the "programme" and the easy novice strength gains you can get by simply eating enough.
I did it a couple years back, went from 64kg to 80kg and everyone kept telling me it was amazing how much weight I had LOST!!!
I did not restrict my diet in anyway though.
I went from 70kg to 84kg, but was getting a little chunky at the same time. I more than doubled my squat, and it seemed to rid me of the back pain I was suffering from as well - which was awesome.
I got to a point where I was happy with the size and strength, but not with the added blubber you get from eating a family sized pack of peanut m&ms for breakfast. Because I am too lazy to research another program (this one is basic, easy to remember and works) I have just stuck with it after starting leangains.
