Wanted: iPhone

  • Yo!

My much loved iPhone 3 has finally spacked out after going down the toilet a few weeks ago. It came back to life after being dried out but the touchscreen no longer works..I can recieve calls and texts etc but can't actually read them/answer phone.

But yeah, if anyone has an iPhone knocking around they no longer want, I will swap cash monies for it.

    Ta!

  • Amazing that it survived that... you may be able to replace the touchscreen for less than the cost of a new / second hand one.

  • Really? tbh, I never considered that option...just automatically discounted it thinking it would cost tonnes to fix..

Will look into it though, thanks! Don't suppose you can suggest anywhere? ; )

  • Yeah screens are very replaceable. Youtube and ebay are your friends...

  • one point for the use of "spacked out".

  • I haz one that you can have. I just got shiney new one. PM me.

A friend of mine tried to replace the screen on his iphone himself and the phone has never been the same since. The fact that he did this work in a field at a festival out of his noggin on the heady mix of ketamine and Pimms may have something to do with this fact though.

    PM on way Joe.S

  • one point for the use of "spacked out".

    • one for dropping a phone in the loo.
  • Nurse Holiday did it the other day for someone at work, and seemed to go okay.

  • O rly? More useful information, ta!

  • out of his noggin on the heady mix of ketamine and Pimms may have something to do with this

Now that is a heady mix...

In my experience I don't advise replacing the screen yourself as it's very fiddley and if you get it wrong it can go really really wrong. You could take it in to one of those shops which say 'phone unlocking' or words to that effect in neon lights in the window - reckon they'll be able to help you out.

  • hmmm ketapimmes - don't want to go through the p-hole

  • this happened to me.
what i did was as follows.
get some bleach - toilet, squeeze a couple of drops on to an ear bud.
drip it down the headphone jack.
leave it overnight - this clears the water indicator in the headphone jack.
the one at the bottom may be triggered already.. but apple didnt care about that one with me and replaced the iphone for me based on it being a hardware issue.

make an appt at apple genius bar, flutter your eyes and put on some charm and you never know they may sort you out with a repair or replacement.

  • I haz one that you can have. I just got shiney new one. PM me.

If this or any of the various options above fall through, a mate has one on Gumtree. PM me for link/price as I don't want to break the rulz.

  • I have replaced a screen with mediocre result. I know what I did now so I'm confident I could do it properly.
Got mine from the bay for a tenner so might be worth a go poots?
Need to make sure you get one with a dizitizer.
