Touring in the middle east

Obviously Syria, Jordan, Yemen and Lybia are out of bounds right now but I was thinking about doing a tour from Iraqi Kurdistan to Iran. Does anyone have any experience of these areas?

Hi ... It looks like this thread may well and truly be dead, but you should have nmo trouble cycling through any part of Jordan, either now or in June when this was posted. I know as I lived there the whole of 2010, and until March 2011, and am regularly kept updated on the situation there as I work (and still work) with UNICEF over there. If you did bike it through the Middle East, I hope you had a good time.... hardly a single bike in Jordan-most are ridden by expats or Ammans middle-upper class looking for an 'adventure', but you do find bikes in Syria a bit more!
