Wow, last night was fun and manic in equal proportions. I really didn't expect so many people to turn up - the ride was huuuge. My other half somehow ended up at the front and called me when they got to Palestra / Southwark tube station - I was still at the north end of Blackfriars by the Unilever building with the back end of the protest.
Lots and lots of lovely cyclists!
There's a great write up on Road CC that nails the whole issue really:
And of course my own write up here:

It was a bit of a "who's who" of London cycling last night, nice to meet some new faces and to catch up with some old ones, and always lovely to ride home with the radiant @Ufrasia

for anyone who's interested - network rail are funding most of the changes to the north junction. their director of investment is simon kirby. i wrote to him about the issue. here's his reply.
Dear XX,
Thanks for your email. As you’re aware we’re currently rebuilding Blackfriars railway station to provide for growing passenger numbers, longer trains and more frequent services.
The coming years will see substantial growth in the number of people using Blackfriars station, and changes need to be made to the road network around the station so that it can cope with an increased volume of pedestrian traffic.
The road junction north of Blackfriars bridge is owned and maintained by TfL. As such they have taken the lead in designing and delivering a new road layout to accommodate all road users over the coming decades. We’ve worked closely with TfL to ensure their road layout is compatible with our station designs and we fully support their plans.
Regards,
Simon Kirby

if anyone would like to let him know what they think.... (cool and measured is probably best if we want to try to get him on side. a cyclist himself, it seems.. http://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/Biographies/Simon-Kirby-Director-Investment-Projects-f63/SearchCategoryID-ffffffff.aspx )

Ah cool, good work silly buggers, I wobbled to Waterloo which luckily wasn't too far !
Tric, how late did you guys end up staying ?
Late enough to culminate in a War of the Placards. Not all of them survived.

Great to see such a huge turnout!
I agree, twice over the bridge would've been better, but it was still great that so many people of all colours and stripes turned up to protest. Hopefully something will come of it...

I suppose its a good idea to wear them nowadays with London becoming a building site n'all, things falling from the skies, especially if worn with panache

There are plenty of examples of tlf not considering cyclists when designing new road layouts.
My commute takes me down New Bond Street, over that silly half cycle lane/half tourist photograph opportunity that links Old Bond Street. There are extensive works at the junction with Picadilly and St. James Street where tfl could easily have introduced a cycle lane to allow us to turn right into Picadilly from the junction of Old Bond St and then left in St. James Street. But did they? No. Forcing me to bunny hop the central reservation, swerve onto the pavement where all the pedestrians are crossing on a green light and then rejoin the traffic at the top of St. James. It's just inexcusable why they did not introduce a cyclist lane here -

Piccadilly and Old Bond Street are Westminster Roads, not TfL.
The whole St James's/Piccadilly scheme has given no consideration for cycling, bar a few useless ASLs. What you suggest would have been useful.

It was weird sitting across from this guy...
I guess that's what you get from hanging out at theatres...
Will have to join you guys up north some time for ale and chips!
Oh and a few more images of the ride here...
