  • I think I have an FE2 body in a box somewhere, the shutter leaves are fucked, and I never looked into replacing them. a pivot/rivet fell out of the shutter and the leaves crumpled, from what I remember. I imagine it would cost more to replace than to get a working one off Ebay, but the rest of it is in pretty good nick.
    erm, interested?

  • +1 Aperture are a nice set of guys. Been in there many a time when I'm in that part of town, in need of tea and camera prOn. What other shop can you get cheap decent tea, free electricity for device charging AND be allowed to handle nice cameras.

The other 2 camera shops around in the surrounding streets are the other end of the scale, if your under 60 they look down your nose at you and continually question your presence in *their *shop.
There is a used only type shop a few blocks away with a guy who repairs for next to nothing, he's OK too.
FE2 with dead shutter you say ...... Brickmans camera shelf is nearly empty :)
Pivot bit is often riveted in there, but replacement 'NOS' shutter assemblies for such things do come up every now and then on ebay. Seen loads of Pentax & Canon assemblies go for pennies, Nikon more difficult though.

  • FM and an F50 for £45 off eBay, now the waiting game to see if the FM works properly!

Went in to Grays of Westminster once. Was treated like a piece of dog shit being scraped off their shoe, so I am now greatly appreciative of a shop where you feel welcome.

  • Haha been to greys as well, they single handedly put a stereo typeof nikon owners into my mind that I cannot shake.

Camera shop owners are very similar to bike shop owners imo...... Its a very technical product they are trying to sell and generally they know more than the customer, but as soon as the customer make it aware that they are similarly knowledge able, they turn sour or soften up, either/or really. You get legends or fowl shrew like beings devoid of soul and humanity#

the latter often fail at business too. I.e.customer wants product, customer has cash in hand, customer asks for specif ic product, customer had enraged owner by not allowing them to recommend said product first, owner turns sour and fails to make easy sale thanks to superior ority complex disorder (aka "short man syndrome" or "brickitus maxima").

  • what I find, a bit like bike shops, is that they often find it difficult to comprehend that you might know a little, or that you might not know anything really, but that doesn't necessarily make you stupid or inferior. I don't know much and I don't like to pretend I do in shops, but that does usually result in getting patronised or brushed off. I like cameras and I like bikes and I use both, a lot, but that's about it. I don't really know one thing from another.

The bike is the one with the round bits underneath.

  • Aperture has got a their own film processing and printing shop in the works soon...

  • Picked up a xa1 form BrickMan and shot a test roll when I were in germany last week. Really impressed with it, a real joy to use.

    more, if interested

  • ^^ Excellent work there kboy, more B&W is called for :p

    Don't walk into the light - Heron Tower - *CanonEOS + tokina 19-35 + Kodak Portra 160NC *

  • Excellent Brickman. Did you use a tripod/monopod, and do you remember how long your exposure was for?

  • That is absolutely lovely...

  • That's the best view I have seen that includes Anne Summers HQ.

  • Whoa

  • Excellent Brickman. Did you use a tripod/monopod, and do you remember how long your exposure was for?

    Thanks :)
It was an accidental shot, was supposed to be ~12seconds but because of the giant fluro it got thrown off and was 4sec/f5.6 or maybe f8 on 160NC only editing was 2 points of black clipping to clean it up.

  • ooof!

  • brickman that is brilliant!

  • anyone interested in a BNIB Pentax AF200SA flash or starblitz 2000A-Quick flash (doesn't look like its had much use, still in the origina box)?

  • Funny you should mention those pentax flashs, just found two of them yesterday, possibly been used but look like new. I think they were aimed at Pentax ME/Super/MX/LX/k1000 era of cam's.
