  • If she's really seriously endangering herself or others.... citizens arrest next time?
Guess it would be too hard to stop her. Love to try. People like that make my blood boil

  • Mine too, as for a Citizens arrest, the typical rider around me at that time of the day (somewhere between 7.45 and 8, depending on the night before) seems far more concerned with staying balanced between panniers than get involved with an actual safety driven interjection....... big words, clearly a wordy day....... clipping the front brake on the way past would make me no better than her......

  • Boris Vallejo does bikes now?

    Cool.

  • twat on a ladies "mountain" bike swerving across the pavement at a dual carriageway junction with no lights and carrying a sleeping toddler over one shoulder

  • have those paedos no shame?

  • did wonder why he had an erection

  • Speech impeddlement

    Speedy Imp Peddler

  • Yeah I can't take all the cyclist at the moment - I'm working with 2-3 near misses a ride now from a combination of crazy bikers and impatient cars. Now that it's late-ish autumn I just want it to get really cold so we dependable cyclists can have most of the roads back. Eesh.

I had to take public transport today and there was tonnes of fuckwittery, as a rule people cycle more they become more aware and relaxed about the ride to/from work. Yet as peds so many were just utter fucknuts, it was very difficult to keep myself in check at times.

  • not sure headphones are relevant to this?

No, not in the slightest in this case, just a personal annoyance of mine. I know Ed will say that not being able to hear isn't a barrier to cycling safely, but it's still probably a good idea if you can.

  • I used to ride with headphones when Downhilling, the key factor there is that Trees tend not to move in front of you, unless you're completely beyond the edge. I reckon, personally, headphones do make for a more chilled ride, but not for me and town riding.....it's a personal thing....... I'd vote no headphones, some will agree and some not, it's personal preference until the buizzies get involved.......

  • I remember my Grandpa saying when he was driving he always wanted to be able to hear what the engine was doing and what other people's engines were doing so he could drive properly. Used to say these new cars that block all the sound from outside are deathtraps. And that he'd never turn the radio on. It's a bit extreme perhaps, but I tend to cycle similarly. I want to be able to hear my own drivetrain and what the nincompoops in the metal boxes are doing.

Like Orko says, town and country cycling is different.

Anyway, back on topic… Some wand on a hybrid this evening kept on undertaking me all the way down Liverpool Road only to get stuck in clusterfucks of manouvering cars. Then he'd peddle frantically to undertake me again and again get hoist by his own petard.

Surely there must come a point when people like this will twig that the methods they're using aren't working. Do they not look at the other cyclists who get further with less effort without winding up everyone they come accross and wonder what they might be doing wrong?

  • Bit of a chill in the air today.
Nodder count immediately halved or better.
    Joy.

  • Yep. Long sleeves for the first time. Though nodders still in effect out west: pausing at junctions then wobbling through the red light, bombing through ped crossings with no sight lines and so on. I blame Altura.

  • 10 celsius FTW!

Your grandad is a wise man.
Its not just noise insulation though, its the way current cars isolate in every way from what is going on outside (and with the car) even compared to cars of 10years ago, and they were inconceivably more isolating from events than cars of 10years before that. etc etc.
So what you have now is people driving cars far more briskly than ever before, as they are damped from the vast potholes they are crashing into, kerbs, other cars, and a general lack of care for whats going on around them. Those that wear ear phones listening to Ipods in their cars are just as bad as people who use mobiles IMO.

  • I was on the bus today (not because its cold because im going out after work) you get a good view from the top deck of all the stupid cyclists, i saw a couple just ride through red lights without even breaking, i wish i had their superpowers where i could ride through a car or maybe a pedestrian without being hurt or causing anyone esle any damage.

So true. I was riding the other day and noticed that my bike was making horrible noises over every bump - checked and my front wheel had wriggled loose on one side after tinkering the night before. It was no problem and maybe 30 seconds into my ride - but imagine if id not heard it?! Jesus.

My current hatred is when i've stopped behind a bus or lorry or next to a car and some cunt on a hybrid or create rolls up and tells me to move out of the way so that they can go and wobble into the gap, not have enough strength to pull away from it and get in my fucking way when I ride past them 10 seconds later. I ended up berating some girl yesterday and telling her to learn to ride her bike faster instead of being a dick on essex road on my way to work.

  • Right with you there. It's a fight to the front to see who's the slowest, wobbliest to get away........ I tend to swerve around them and make my own path, usually finding that the car behind is staring at the backsides of the slowies and not interested in the flyer that cranked to a healthy set off........ The blind red light jumpers surprise me every morning at Dalston Junction, rolling across on a red light as if they were wrapped in anti knock off foam........ mental.....

  • Woke late, headphones, book, coffee on the Tube today. #andrelax

  • I would really like to thank the Golf driver, who actually saved me after a friggin useless Hybrid rider seemed to attempt to wipe me out at Leigh Bridge Road roundabout. I was left and going left, he undertook me to go.........yep, you guessed it, right! Golf driver actually swerved perfectly top allow me to adjust and move, so huge thanks to her (she was very cute too, ahem). Should anyone see, a Ridgeback Hybrid, Poo brown with orange lettering, red Ortlieb panniers both sides, Lycra clad with Hi Vis vest......... Giro Blue helmet. Do as you will, I'll be rather greatful........ and no, I did'nt get her reg number, mores the pity...........

Don't get me started about those morons at Dalston Junction who think there are immune to any physical injury.

  • The most shocking I've seen is a Mum, with Bairn in kiddy trailer on the back who pretty much every morning rolls across between light changes, never ceasing to amaze me at her seeming invincibilty!

  • I saw a guy ride through a red at Dalston Junction without slowing or looking, in the dark, with no lights, riding no handed and peeling a banana.

It was so ridiculous I laughed.

  • Points for style.

  • that was me, sorry.
