Freecycle: Prehistoric pc and mahoosive crt

  • hey, i've finally dragged myself into the brave new world and got a flat screen moitor and a computer with more power than my phone at home.

This means i now have the old one here taking up space. I'm not sure how much use it is to anybody but if you want it it's here in herne hill. It was quite a goer in it's day but those days have passed. Got it from a bloke who had it at his studio for design work. It's got about 512 ram, possibly an 80gig hard drive (though i may be wrong on that one) and until yesterday I was running autocad 2008, illustrator and a browser on it. It does bog down with multiple things running but it's still useable if you want a free computer. I've got a wireless adapter you can have too. There's also a wireless keyboard and mouse. The cherry, however is the 21 inch crt monitor. It's a beast; sony trinitron ultra sharp thing so it's really good if you have the space for it and a strong enough desk to support it...

I'll leave illustrator, photoshop, autocad and various other bits on it. It even runs an old version of solidworks which is still on there too.

Someone come take it. I'll get landfill guilt otherwise. Could drop it off around herne hill / brixton if needed.

Free, gratis (maybe donate a couple of quid to the forum or something)

  • possible dibs, I will get back to you very soon with a definite yes or no

  • it's not a sony pvm 2130 QM (one of these)

is it? If so definite dibs

  • ^ nice that. doubt it.

  • mmm, with speakers, crt porn

  • i was close to buy one of them on ebay a while ago and use as a telly, such a nice piece of kit

  • how come they're still so expensive? Is there use for them professionally?

(Sorry OP, but loadsa free bumps)

  • Hi, am interested in the monitor, would that work with a game console? If so, could I pop round to have a look? Really have no need of the PC though. If I ended up getting it, would a couple of beer be enough payment for dropping off in Camberwell? Just off Loughborugh Juction station.

    Cheers

  • They're used for art installations because of their uniform box shape and classic design. They are also sought after but people who play artari type old consoles on them. Also they're realllllly good looking. There's 3 sizes, 21, 27 and 29 inch. Be aware as the 21 inch (I think it's that size) do not have a scart lead socket so won't play dvd's as easily, and 27 and 29 are a bit clumsy and big. Hantarex did some lovely crt's too which are collectable

(yes, i know too much, coolstorybro)

  • sorry, been away and so busy at mo i've not had a chance to check in. The monitor is this one:

So, unfortunately not one of those good looking ones. Think someone is taking it anyway. So there is still the computer but as none of the old software on it will run on my shiny new 64 bit OS i'll need to keep it for a week or so till I find replacement versions of potatoeshop and illustrator that I can run on the new computer.
