  • Awful awful news :(

  • RIP
    Horrible.
My thoughts to her family and friends

  • Tiddy, really is probably best to discuss this somewhere else as suggested already in this thread.

I despair every time I see anyone heeling it along the side of a bus / lorry / whatever, Male OR female. Statistics may tell a particular tale but lets not make this a strictly gender issue.......it's a safety & education issue, and this is not the thread to discuss it in.

Also let us not assume that just because a woman sadly lost her life today on her bike due to a heavy lorry, that it had anything to do with heeling along the curb.

RIP to the lady and thoughts to her family and friends at this time.

  • Rest in peace.

  • Terribly sad and distressing news.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of this poor woman.

  • This is just too sad, my condolences to all those involved in this tragedy.
We pay such a high price for travel. I just read this today, although it is a few weeks old. Brings it home just how bad things are:-

  • RIP and even more sad when it's such a young person. Heartfelt thoughts to the victim's family and friends.

It sounds from the news upthread that there were witnesses so let's hope that enough come forward to enable the full facts to come out and appropriate action be taken.

  • really sad. a report has just been on bbc tv london news at ten.

my thoughts and prayers are with the rider, family and friends.

and i will write to my mp (again).

  • Sorry to hear about this.

    RIP.

  • Yet another preventable waste of life.

    RIP

  • This is my friend of a friend, and her parents are on their way to London now.

I still can't believe this only happened in the morning...

Any witnesses to the collision, please report to the police.

  • Heartbreaking.

    RIP

  • Tragic. Thoughts to the family. We are all of us so vulnerable out there. We mustn't give up on our campaigning efforts.

  • The Standard now carrying this story and had to mention the key fact "She was not wearing a helmet ". How retarded can a journo get? Fucking sickening, trying to blame the victim indirectly.
    http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23994197-witnesses-tell-of-haunting-images-as-cyclist-is-killed-outside-kings-cross.do

  • I mean, how is a helmet supposed to protect you from being crushed by a lorry?

  • It is outrageously bad journalism and this victim blaming just adds additional hurt to all concerned. Disgraceful!

  • It fucking sucks. We don't know the exact circumstances and yet the implication is that clearly she would have survived if she had been wearing a plastic hat. Pathetic.

  • To the Standard's editor. Anyone else feel like emailing:
    Editor: Geordie Greig
    E: geordie.greig@standard.co.uk

    Deputy Editor: Sarah Sands
    E: editor@standard.co.uk

  • also, her personal email (from journalisted):

    lucy.osborne1@gmail.com

to be fair, she is a trainee.

one should also point out that she quotes the tfl spokesperson without question. as we all know, since the blackfriars affair, tfl lie through their teeth on questions of cyclist safety.

  • Rip.

  • I'm guessing the story writer's professional email would be lucy.osborne@standard - might be better..? I'll be trying it later...

  • Thanks for the email. Have contacted her directly too

  • Also mailed - to @standard.co.uk address. No bounceback so hopefully correct....

  • Just sent me a personal reply. Says she might look at some of the issues I raised for a future article. We'll see!

  • Awesome. Something on safe riding & driving would be most welcome.
