I am relatively new to the single speed thing. Do you think this is a good deal? Potential for a nice single gear or money to be made in stripping apart? Thanks

  • If its your size its an ok bike.

  • Sorry to jump on your post but I can't start my own thread as I am a newbie and this is similar to my subject.

I have just been down to a bike shop to order some hand built wheels to go onto my London commuting bike.

    • Mavic Open Pro
    • Double Butted Spokes
    • Shimano 105 Hubs
    • Brass Nipples

He opened up a Raleigh Catalogue and said that this will cost £145 and will be hand built by Raleigh and delivered the next day!

Sounds a bit too good to be true?! Cheapest I found on the web was just under £200 (inc p&p) and Evans Cycles do this for £290, Cycle Surgery for £295!! Am I missing something here that I should be worried about?

  • they probably not open pro, but instead open sport, which are common OE fit rims. Still good rims, but not 'as' good.

As for building up fast, CRC do them too, they have an epic machine that builds wheels in minutes if not seconds!

  • Nope they are Open Pro, saw the items in the Catalogue myself and also when he ordered them from Raleigh. £145 for a complete wheel set sounds bonkers and I think the guy may well be getting a lot more custom from me in the future.

Is CRC, Chain Reaction Cycles? I will report back when I get hold of them, just ordered as the price seems to good to
