HB, I would personally drop the third gear, for the weight I don't think its worth it - 2 speed is fine.
Also if you're making up money, get a front carrier block and frame, extremely useful - you dont have to buy a bag necessarily but you can strap a lot of bags to it. Mine gets a lot of use.
The 3rd gear does add a lot of weight but I think it'll last longer than the 2spd if tim's is anything to go by and the 2 lower gears are more for emma's benefit and I'm sure on the few hills she has to go up near her place she will use the lowest gear a fair bit.
And I will get the carrier block and frame eventually but I figure it can wait as they cost the same buying them now as they will further down the line and I don't have a suitable bag to strap onto it yet. for now I need the fibre flare for my fixed build I'm finishing at the moment and the new lock is so I have something with a long enough shackle to anchor the brompton to something when I can't keep an eye on it at all times to stop it going walkies which is a more pressing concern than more luggage for me(given I have a fakie bag anyways).
