I see. Plenty of investigating to do before I get a new tyre then. Currently I'm struggling to get any stopping power out of the brakes

You could expect a more likely result if using the same tyre in a larger size as a lot of the variables are removed. You should then get more grip and more comfort.

This is a seriously nice bike! Did you get that frame off Hilary?
Thanks!
Frame came from a germany, from a guy called sash or something.
It's a lovely ride, light for something from 81, and she just loves it. Gave it a name straightaway. -

I've made a few changes to my fixed bike.
Parts changed since last time:
- Aligator I-link brake cable
- Sram S900 brake levers
- Bontrager compact bars
- Bontrager cork tape
- Selle Italia C64 saddle
- Bontrager RaceXLite and Michelin Pro3 tyres
- Aligator I-link brake cable

You cut your bar tape short. Why?

Love it!

I'm pretty much always on the hoods or in the drops so it's hardly an inconvenience. Plus it was some old tape I had lying around that had already been cut short, I'll change it to some Deda tape once I get round to buying it.

Didn't think there's a compact drop in 26 clamp size, were the bontrager obtainable?

Needs a back brake as well if it's single speed freewheel

Thoughts on the 52-16?
A fine gear if you're racing at 22-25mph average speed. For general road use, not so much.

I was plesantly suprised when I found them, not many companies seem to offer a 26.0 bar let alone a compact version. I ordered them through my LBS and the distributor had plenty of stock. They're the SSR VR-C 26.0, I noticed a few online retailers had them in stock as well.
I find that the compact bars and S900 levers feel a lot more comfortable than the 3TTT Morpheus bars and Shimano Exage levers I had on there before.

The other option were the new Soma Highway 1 bar with a shorter reach (75mm to the Bonts 85mm), would've gone for the Bonts had I known about it, instead of trying to get a quill-ahead convertor.

^^^Cheers on the Bontrager 26.0 compact bars.. I want some! Bontrager site is really helpful too, click on model "find a dealer"; I'll get to calling tommorow.. Only 25 euro's (I'm in NL) too!
Carcass, compound, tread band thickness, geometry of the rim/tyre combination affecting the way the sidewall deforms.
