Shimano 600, 6 speed issue.

I have a Corsa Extra with a Shimano 600 EX groupset on it, the problem is that the freewheel doesn't stop when you stop pedaling which makes the chain drop. Is this something that would be fixable or would it require a new part? If so what would be causing the problem, the cassette or the freehub?

The cassette is outside the frrehub so shouldn't affect its motion. Slip the chain off the cassette and see if it spins ok.

Yeah I've been playing round with it and it's the freehub that's the problem with it.

Do you mean you have a spare cassette or a spare freehub?

Ideally take free hub off and rebuild the bearings in it if possible (can be done with some high end models).
Less ideal.... Take free hub off and spray lube/teflon/penetrating oil in there from the hub side. Then run it round till it frees up. Let it dry out then inject some light grease in there. Should sort it. Lack of use/lube will let them get draggy.
Though the 600 blocks are heavy (weighs almost as much as the rest of the wheel put together!) They last forever.

If it is indeed a freehub, all it takes is a 10mm allen key once the axle has been removed. I recently swapped out a UG freehub body for a HG one off a cheap new hub on eBay.

I'm not sure about the penetrating oil in the freehub body, as it would be difficult to flush out the old grease. Just some light oil to moisten the existing grease.

I'd be curious to see a guide on rebuilding a freehub body. Never examined one with the intent of disassembly.

The miracle in a can is called spray grease :)
It can be found in Lidl for about £2 a can, and its aweful stuff, but might just revive a sticky freehub or freewheel :)

Come across quite a few re-buildable freehubs (in mtb hubs), or least, can be rebuilt, circlip pliers, small screwdriver to pry the bits out etc.
