Dia-Compe GranCompe hub threading (cog & freewheel)

Posted on
  • Hello there,

currently I'm buying all the bits for a new rear wheel. Just got a GranCompe flip-flop hub and I can't get any info on the freewheel/cog threads on it. Manufacturer's website has nothing on it. I will be looking at the budget ACS 16T freewheel.

I'm a bit confused about all the different hub threadings going on as I come from MTB background and this is my first on-road bike.

    Thanks

  • As not French or Italian or Phil Wood it is standard ISO threading as used by everyone else.

  • There's another bit. Quote from freewheel description "Please Note: ACS 16T - 22T freewheels thread on Standard English hub threads" I have Sheldon's freewheel threading table in front of me (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/freewheels.html) and it states that ISO threading is 1.375 x 24 TPI and British threading is 1.370" x 24 tpi That's not exactly the same threading or is it? I'm a bit paranoid about screwing up the hub.

  • Dont worry about that, a 15t or smaller single speed freewheel wont fit on a standard freewheel threaded hub. There are specific bmx hubs with smaller diameter threads that take 15t freewheels.

  • I see.. thanks for the help.
