They ruin the lines IMO. Really like the look of the brakes without those messy bits.
Probably better to bolt on some different shoes/pads rather than destroying the original ones, if you ever want to sell your brakes you'll get more for them with the original shoes including wheel guides. While you're at it, you can upgrade the pads to some modern ones that actually slow you down.
