How do they keep the top end of the front fender from rattling without a strut?
Steel mudguards (U.S.:fenders) are pretty stiff

Raleigh is anti for me.
Its like a MG sportscar, just a creaky imitation of something that might be nice. Steel mudguards are anti, 3 bolt chainrings are anti.
MKS sylvans are anti because they are rubbish pedals.
Chrome add-on cable guides are also anti.

just a creaky imitation
It's not an imitation, it's pretty much how Raleigh sold it in 1977

Thats exactly what I meant.
Nearly all raleighs are a creaky imitation of something good.

Nearly all raleighs are a creaky imitation of something good.
In 1977, Raleigh sold over half of all new bicycles in the UK. What were they imitating?

Something better.
a good example for that particular bike is something I actually own (well the frame!)
And lets not even get into raleigh burners.

I failed to to give neg rep due to sausage fingers, an iPhone and standing up on a train.
Someone on this page now has (some kind) of rep from me.

nothing beats MA40s
How do they keep the top end of the front fender from rattling without a strut? I like that extra coverage, but have always had to have a rack or something to stabilize things.
And oh yes, that bike is easy on the eyes.
