Anyone know who stocks such spares. Cant find any, anywhere. Just need 1.

  • I needed something similar only last week: I asked at the repair shop (run by a guy called Wes) just off The Cut, he rummaged in a box for me, would take any money for it just told me to donate to his charidee box. I ended up using a normal nut not one of those, but i have a funny old english axle. Worth a try, though i don't know what it's called: on a road just on the north side of the Cut around the Southwark tube end of it, look for the bonkers long surly passenger bike thing outside. Nice bloke.

  • Thanks dude, I 'll see if I can get down there.

  • It's called the London Bicycle Repair Shop. Wes is on here I think.

I use them quite a bit and they are excellent, always happy to help you out and charge very reasonable prices.

  • Btw, it's on Hatfields, which has the Anchor and Hope pub on the corner.

  • If its for a forumla hub BLB and Condor both sell replacements...

  • Cool, I always forget Condors pretty much on my way home. That'd be easier. Thanks fellas.

  • Hello folks. I am looking for exactly the same lock nut, for a Surly Fixie with Surly hubs. Can't find any in my local bike shops in Aberdeen and have been as far as Edinburgh looking. Has anyone seen them online?

    thanks

  • For the record, BLB still stock these. £2.50 a pop though...

  • Any proper bike shop should have some in the 'oddements' box. Threads vary a bit, as do widths. I've found those off Shimano (old XT I think) are solid and matched my Novatech track hubs close enough.

If they try and charge you £2.50 then your in the wrong shop!

  • Just out of interest, does anyone know what the actual thread is on the formula hub's standard axle?

  • The thread on the formula hubs is 10x26 which is the same as Campagnolo.
These cheap cast lock nuts often crack and the best plan is to replace them with Campagnolo inner lock nuts.

JD Whiskers have them for £2 each

  • What so that's m10x26tpi? Cheers

  • That's correct, Campagnolo used bastardo (Italian for bastard) sized threads on their hub axles:

    Front 9mm x 26 TPI
    Rear 10mm x 26 TPI

That's metric diameters with inch pitch threads. (TPI = Threads Per Inch)

hence the reason standard metric or imperial nuts won't fit properly.......... bastardo !

  • Indeed bastardo's!!!! (If that works) I've made two sets and they've both been wrong but very close, I'm a toolmaker so threads are my bread and butter, but they are some weird ones. A yeah, thanks for the info mate and happy Friday riding!

    Cheers

  • I'm after the very same for a Miche Primato hub, any one know of the threading for these ? I can get hold of an old Formula hub and use the lock nut from that if they're the same threading

  • I believe they are a some form on cone nut. I broke one on my old hub. Condor have them available if you ask for them.

  • one a similar note... does anyone have an idea where i can pick up spare rear hub bearing washers (those little buggers that sit on top of the bearings) for a specialised langster (stock wheels)???
Buying new hubs is not an option, and I cant find spares in any shop so far!
