Ahh, you should have done a bread thread. I would have been in my element! My dinner last night after 6 pints was 2 slices of wholemeal, a bagel (unfilled) and some crackers.

It sounds odd but all the places I've enjoyed living in the most have all had great bakeries nearby*

mmm pastries are my fave. Sadly, never found anywhere that great. The French cafe Maison Mayci (Kings Heath, Moseley, Harborne) sometimes has great ones and top cakes too but not really central.

oh and you can get great Baklava (filo pastry with chopped nuts/honey) at the Lebanese bakery in Balsall Heath. Also not helpful but there must be somewhere nearer to you that does it...

Food tastes better when you pay for it on points!
But you can offset your rampant commercialism by using your five-finger discount card -

Fuck that. Went to tesco's yesterday in desperation and even there finest stuff looked like crap and had probably been on the shelf for 3 days. We're supposed to be the 'second city' and we can't even get a good croissant. Bullshit

tbh tesco is shit because they let me cook most stuff in the bakery

Remember Croissant House on New Street?
Those were the days..... -

Second Maison Mayci, it's that or the Farmers' Market at Kings Norton - the French bakers are the best. If you're going with shops, then Coop do better bread/pastries than the other big shops, but frankly if you know decent pastries they just can't compete.

Just checked Maison Mayci site - Seems pretty decent, not local for me but probably worth a visit to cure my cravings

Coop's 'Honey Bastard'. Best bread ever made
Yeah you heard me.
To be honest I don't think I'm gonna make it through the winter without decent pastries, I'm talking quality almond crossaints, pain au chocolat all those sweet french delights.
Anyone know of anywhere good - Town centre or around preferably.
Anyone who suggests gregs can gtfo
