this last month I have ticked off three major foodie aspirations.
I finally got round to trying the Hawksmoor burger. I will never eat a hamburger anywhere else... Their classic hamburger is, in my mind, perfection...
Hakkasan, wasn't too bothered about going here, but when I got the opportunity through work, I lept at the chance. I've always been a skeptic of expensive Chinese food, but wow, this blew me away. Dim sum, check, superb wine selection check, main dishes so finely marinated and cooked that they melt in the mouth, in a way that I cannot comprehend/explain...I had the finest seabass, which blew me away. I was really really impressed. The service let down the whole experience somewhat, which was a minor niggle, but as this was all paid for by someone else, I couldn't grumble too much.
And the reason why I cannot sleep and am sat up typing this... (too full actually). Nobu, Berkley Square... wow. I am going back there as soon as I possibly can. AND it will require saving....seesh!
We were very lucky in that we got an extremely generous voucher from a close friend as a wedding present, so I wasn't to concerned at looking at the prices of the dishes but just went crazy and ran with the EXTREMELY helpful staff recommendations from the very extensive and superb menu... Salmon sashimi, Nobu salmon and tuna tacos, rock shrimp tempura, shitaake mushroom salad, black cod in miso, pork belly with spiced miso, soft shell crab hand roll and scallop sashimi. the desserts were pure theatre (I had the suntory whiskey cappucino, highly recommended, if you like boozy/sweet stuff) and the drinks were fantastic and, as expected, VERY pricey.
the food was absolutely incredible, I absolutely cannot fault any of the dishes, most of which were recommended to us by the very attentive and helpful staff, who certainly made us feel very relaxed in a very busy and bustling restaurant.
i loved it and I hope I can afford to go back as soon as possible.
