Anyone got a Turbo Trainer I could borrow for a few days? I fancy giving it a go to see if it's worth investing in one for the winter.
-
• #2355
How about you just get out and ride during the winter?
-
• #2356
Yes, there are details of a variety of fashionable winter trousers to choose from in the Winter Clothing thread (rated 5★). No excuses

Steve borrowed us one for the Berlin BBQ/training which I think is still at EMM's house. I'm sure if you ask nicely, you can give it a whirl! I'm moving back to those ends next week as well Tom.

I'll only be friends with you if you ride through the whole winter :)

That's a good incentive NOT to ride through the whole winter :)

Quoted for grammar fail :P
I've offered Tom the trainer if he can hook up with Matt and take possession of it. To be honest, I'm not worried about getting it back. It cost me £2 from a car boot sale!

It would be a pointless investment unless you're planning to use them for high intensity interval training, i.e. unless you're planning on racing.
Not only that but they're absolutely horrible to ride. The bike is completely locked into position, so it doesn't move side to side when you pedal. This lack of response and movement makes the bike feal dead. Do it too often and it'll make you hate your bike.
Apart from being really boring they're generally really noisy too, unless you spend money on a fairly decent model.
Even rollers are boring to use, but at least they feel a bit more realistic, since the bike moves side to side and you're forced to concentrate on your balance.
