• Hey Guys, I've searched the forum for similar threads and I don't think this has been covered and it may help others in my situation (or maybe its just me...) so here goes:

I'll be off to uni next year and i'm looking to buy a solid frame to build up which will last the 3+ years of university life, however i've heard plenty of horror stories about stolen bikes. So here's the brief... i need to make by bike look unattractive to your average bike thief...

so far i've decided loosely on an on-one macinato, and i'm thinking about stripping it (i'm not exactly a huge fan of that paint job) to make it less attractive to thieves. I've also toyed with the idea of applying a rust effect, but i don't know if this will damage the frame or stop me from being about to lacquer it (?). Personally i think this will improve the looks but i would think the brain of your average bike thief might not be able to compute that sort of opinion...

other than frame choice, i was wondering if anyone had any opinions on any other kit to go with it which is understated and relatively cheap, but reliable e.g solid rims (probably not deep section). I'm also going to be splashing out on decent locks etc.

I appreciate any ideas you guys have got...

    Cheers,

    Sam
