cheers for the advice, quite heartening, i tend to run the first bit as I feel too without caning it and then try and hold pace through the second half.
Not much racing for me though, when you are well and truly middle of the field then it seems less important, although last time it gave me a boost to be passing people in the last 10 km.
my taper is only 2 weeks but that worked pretty well for me, my last 20 mile run is 2 weeks before the race but i intend to take that quite easy.
