I think this has a point - especially with the abuse survivors bit, journalists (not here but elsewhere in the world, where sometimes it really isn't safe to write under your real name), people on witness protection, stalking victims, people attempting rehabilitation etc.
Yet another 'oh we didn't really think about it that much' Google policy I'm afraid.
