My colleague just witnessed a white van driver and his passenger get out of their van and beat the crap out of a courier.

He was pretty shaken and didn't get the reg number - moron.
But if this was you and you need a witness to what happened I am sure I can persuade him....

I'd hope that he means that his colleague is a moron for not getting the registration not the courier who was busy being assaulted.

Sorry to be clear: my colleague is a moron (and shaken) NOT the courier.
I can only imagine the courier was far more than shaken although apparently he did cycle off.
It sounded absolutely horrific - courier was getting kicked by BOTH of them having been punched to the ground.

It only stopped after a security guard from one of the shops/casinos/restaurants/hotels stepped in, at which point the white van men attacked him.
This gives me hope the security guard will at least follow up and get CCTV footage etc...

Did you colleague catch what courier firm it was? Might be worth dropping them a line if so.

I think it did actually, someone mentioned it in my office and I saw small children being walked to school near home for the first time (started new job over summer).

I had a white-van-man try and T-bone me as I was cycling across the Marble Arch junction from Oxford Street towards Bayswater Road this morning. Foot flat down as he saw orange (which I was running on). Cheers for trying to kill me!

TBF the OP was van men not school mums/breeders, who AFAIK dont often leap out of the 4x4 and beat down on courriers even if they are driving around in a big metal box full of psychotic screaming infants.

Genuinely not having a go - but let's do an experiment. You do the above and I'll approach winter in a much less defensive manner and not assume that I'm going to be subject to actual attacks from people. In spring we'll tot up and compare our individual experiences. I'm somewhere between being principled in that we shouldn't have to 'arm ourselves' against other road users and genuinely being a bit more chilled out about the reality of how scary it is out there. Many will say I'm naive but I genuinely believe that in our hypothetical experiment I'd suffer no more shit than you. In fact - truth be told, I believe it would be less!

Those van drivers were clearly utter pricks and I hope they both get a jail term for what they did in broad daylight. I also hope that said courier is less injured than he sounds and isn't developing homicidal tendencies as a result of what happened. Heal up soon if you're on here.

hope he's ok, was in Berkeley Sq last night, pity didnt see anything - but there was some very odd behaviour going on yesterday - a bloke waiting to cross Park Lane opposite the Dorchester, went out in front of a fast moving bendy bus (for what it's worth wearing hi vis/my wings are like a shield of steel!)- no idea how he didnt get killed.

I completely agree, which is why 'smile' is the biggest word. TBH I dont think any one reads it, some of them can't actually see the large fat 16 stone 6'1 hi-vis monster riding blackpool illumiations along the road. I almost had "If you can read this your too fucking close" but who knows what would follow that one as humour is often mistaken for a punch in the face if your sat in a nice car listening to some music in the warm and dry. In and ideal world we would all just get to where we are going and get there in one peice. But as ever there are some road users who have no respect for sentient life, even if it is wrapped in a humourus hi-vis gillet.
