• if the door opened "no more than a foot in front" of you then no amount of attention would have avoided the collision, realistically, and the door opener is liable for the accident. he sounds like a slippery guy, so you should get the CCTV to preserve the evidence, as most councils scrub the CCTV after about 28 days and private CCTV footage may be much less.

    If you do not get the CCTV footage, as you did not, by the sounds of it, inform the police, you have no evidence of the accident and will struggle proving it happened if he later denies it. Call the relevant borough and insist that they tell you the name of the CCTV camera that would capture the footage, and insist that they send you the footage. They usually say they cant release this but they have to under the freedom of information act.

    although he was not the driver, you would probably be able to claim against the car insurance policy anyway.or the guy would be personally liable for any damaged property.
