Dura ace 7600 hubs replacement axle

Posted on
  • Hi,
I recently got a great offer for a set of dura ace 7600 hubs to cxp30 tubular rims which I want to use on the track.
The problem is, that the axle of the frunt hub is in bad shape and probably needs replacement. My mechanic said it would be best to use the original parts since it's a high grade hub that was made to work best with these parts. The original dura ace axle is only available as a set with cones, locknuts and axle nuts and costs about 100€.
Did anyone on here ever replace an axle of the DA7600 hubs with another brands axle and did it work well?
Maybe someone knows a similar axle that does the job and is cheaper.
    Thanks.

  • Use the correct part, those hubs are too nice to compromise.

If you are in London I believe that Brixton Cycles has a front axle in stock.

Worth giving them a ring, at least.

  • Yeah I paid about £35 for a rear axle kit a year or so ago but turned out the hub shell was fucked not just the cones .....

  • has anyone bought from the above link or do you end up paying import tax?

Where did you get the kit?
I live in germany. I got the prices from the shimano distributor.
I have found several other high quality axles that look the same (no threading in the middle) but only overseas.

Anyone ever ordered somethign from alexscycle.com? Postage, tax?

    Thanks!

  • If it is just the axle, you shouldn't have a problem using a (good quality) no name. I highly recommend not using any other cone, Shimano ones are always fairly specific when it comes to the seals. Replacement axle and freehub body for my dura-ace road wheel was £270 retail : s

  • Shimano are annoying with these things. The cheaper cones and axles are available seperatly but nott he high end. Makes no sense!

  • axle brand wont matter as long as its the same lenght and thread, and high quality steel.

old news. Already have contacted the distributor via my lbs, problem is that they only sell the axle as a set which is 100€. There's one shop that has the axle only butit's still about 40€. Plus each nut is about 9€.

May have sorted it out though. Thanks for the help guys.

  • Anyone know or have a rear 120mm axle? or where to get them in the uk avoiding import tax. cheers.

  • Is it just the axle you need? If so then any 10mm 24tpi solid crmo axle will do, sjs has a large choice

  • Id prefer to replace it with the original, anyone know where they can be found in the UK? cant find them on madison.
