Anything will break under enough force (big enough crash), if you ride your polo bike nicely then it shouldn't fail on you (normal usage), but you can never avoid someone barreling into you at 90 degrees full tilt.
6061 alu is strong enough for DH so could be fine. It's not just about material type though, it's about thickness, build style, frame design, quality control, etc.
The only way of future proofing your purchase is to get a good warranty, or insure the bike, or buy a Russian TiBike (apparently).
