On Tuesday night poor old Diggs came a cropper, at about 2130 on the Clapham Road, southbound, just shy of Clapham North station. Pics say a thousand words and all but suffice to say that under fearsome acceleration, some of the atoms making up his right crank arm no longer felt obliged to hug their neigbours. I am assured that mad skillz almost kept him upright, in a blaze of sparks from a Flintsones style foot (pedal and cage still attached) but ultimately he went down heavily onto his elbow.
He was assisted by several passers by including a motorist, who helped him get his shit together, after which he declined an ambulance, thanked them sincerely, rang the takeaway, took a cab home, had his tea, then checked into St Thomas', explained the diagnosis to the Doctors, fixed a minor hospital plumbing issue (jest not), corrected some errors in their paperwork regarding human rights (srsly), restructured the NHS at a grassroots level, and found time to have an operation.
The end of his right ulna had snapped clean off, and they used fancy wire to put it back on again (under general, yesterday). As you can see from the pics, his recovery is impressive. No doubt aided by the the enormous veggie curry we nailed last in the day room yesterday eveining.
He is out today hopefully. He'll be a little inconvenienced for a while no doubt, but is already muttering about a bike ride tomorrow. We wish him well!
