I think many on here have wondered what IS the best lock; well disappointment of disappointments, there isn't specifically a best lock per se. But there are a few locks that are more secure than all the rest.
I think I was right to label the Kryptonite Fahg Mini and the Abus Granit X-59 as the 2 most secure locks, but its come as a bit of a surprise that the OnGuard Brute 5001 STD in a straight test (non-scientific), beat the Fahg Mini. This happened in 2009, in the May issue of Maxim magazine. It took longer to be defeated by angle grinder. The article was called The Great Lock Off.
I'm not saying its better, as Kryptonite work tirelessly to improve their products, and I believe that their locking mechanism and amount of key options, make them the preferred choice. But if time taken to defeat matters, then the OnGuard Brute is a very astute choice.
