All weekly public training sessions will restart as usual throughout September from the 10th onwards. Beyond September, while the timetable is still bound by a lack of evening light, we will be making the most of our new (almost) all-weather surface, so keep an eye on the Calendar or front page for updates of winter training sessions.

Sunday 11th September, 11am (youths), 1pm (seniors) - the Dave Creasy Memorial Meeting. A new event for this year, but already hyped to be the biggest spectator track race of the year. After he previous weekends test events, this is the official re-opening event spectacle. A little bit of Belgium comes to Herne Hill, with a whole day of madison and team events for the riders, and beer and burgers for the spectators.

After the racing, Save the Velodrome will be hosting a free night of have-a-go riding on the track, and an outdoor film night, showing the cycling classic, Breaking Away.

  • RPM - sort this stupid title out please! I'm typing with one hand...

  • noice

  • Bump. Note that the track is now due to open late, but it time for the cyclo cross on September 7th.

The track meetings planned for 3rd and 4th of September are canceled.

  • sad :(
    with all this rain...

  • All is not lost though, there is a full programme of B events at the Dave Creasy meeting on the 11th which is also set to be the biggest, most spectator-friendly track race of the year - so come on down then.

  • could I get more details on the B events please eg what events exactly, what time events and sign on start/finish (it says 11am and 1pm on the flyer above?). Will I definitley get in as EOL?

  • I am coming for Dave's one, yes

  • The reopening was just mentioned on the BBC morning news. That is all.

  • Just got an email from Lucia, who was the young woman filming at Herne Hill pretty much constantly at the beginning of the season. If you saw or participated in the filming and want to see how it turned out, then there is free screening after the Dave Creasy Memorial

    Blurb:

We are proud to announce the screening of The Best Seat in the World at Herne Hill Velodrome's free bike-powered cinema event, taking place this Sunday the 11th of September at 8.00pm.

We thank you for your support and participation to this project and hope you can make it!

  • I was invited but had to decline. Bloody work.

  • Gonna pop down for a looksie in a bit...

Looking forward to Sunday, gonna be celebrating a really good mate's birthday down there... Hope the weather holds out...

  • Excuse the crappy photography, I missed a bit... Track looks great! Big version here...

  • I won't be there this weekend (sister getting married). Is there something the weekend after?
    (MJ's introduction to HH)

  • TS - nice photo(s)!

This is all very exciting. Fingers crossed the weather holds out for the whole weekend.

  • From Twitter.

  • How great!! I nicked your pict TS, I hope that you don't mind

  • See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G6UxpFzaFc
for formal opening. Did a few laps after this lot - great to see it back in operation.

  • The National Derny Championships for men and women are on 24th Sept. Great that the track has been resurfaced for the fourth time in my lifetime but its a shame that the rest of the site is still a sh!te hole. Also I hope that the fence will be finished before the weekend.

  • hopefully now it's an all weather surface track riding will be available most of the year, as long as the crossers don't drag mud onto the tarmac.

  • Or wet leaves on the track ;-)

  • Does "all weather" mean we can train on Saturday in the rain?

  • Probably in the drizzle. Its going to take a bit of guess work to be honest. Any volunteers to ride round progressively slower and slower in the rain to find the "biting point"?!

Its definitely a lot gripper in the wet than the old surface.

Here's one for Mr Smyth, Dernymeister and RPM

Don't worry, it wasn't muddy so the tracks still clean!
