I love my oilers, TT has been (marginally) longer lasting than GT85 in my experience.
What is TT?
I now have a collection of bike bits at home for a new build, managed to source some eBay bargains: K-force bars
Flat bars?

Looking at hub gears: does anyone know if you can respace alfine 8speed hubs to 120/125mm?
and why is the de facto polo hub gear an Alfine? Anyone used the Sturmey 8 speed or the Nexus 8 speed? -

Something about bits sticking out and being dangerous and/or easy to break.

Yeah, I bough TT randomly, but it's been working well, seems to stay "smoother" than GT85 which I've found to be better than WD40 (which makes sense), could be a change in the weather or something though?
Flat bars?
Nope, I thought about it and went with the old school mini rise approach... carbon is gonna be a new polo trend though (unless it snaps dramatically)!

just HTFU?
Paddington to Downs is only 7 miles...
Same as my journey every week from Bethnal Green to Peckham, or not much futher than Downs -> Newington
For me, the reason I would never consider a hub gear is that it's so much heavier, and you are compromising your on-court game for off-court comfort. it would be like fitting panniers to a TT bike...
I guess the only on-court advantage is that you have the right gear for different courts...

I don't think the extra weight is a compromise. But then my frame is fucking light.

I'm selling my nexus 7 wheel/cable/shifter set-up. Its 120mm spaced at the moment, but should be easy to change.

Yeah that's fair enough.
But it could be lighter ;)

Since you have already splashed out, might wanna get some Goodridge cable outers?
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=23398 I think both gabes and snoops runs them.
Will be running all the below (tricompound pads) and Goodridge cables and outers come payday. Hopefully a pair of new V brakes too.
Nokon cables, oilers, and new brake blocks just arrived from chain reaction...
Just in time to get it ready before the CPH Open.

goodridge is great, in a straight line, really doesn't like any sharp turns. Hard to get into an oiler as well, but great outer.
