Your time for a Nitto stem? Stuck parts help...

Posted on
  • Hello All,

This is an odd one, and I hope I don't come across a prick asking, but, I have a bike with a seized post and stem which I obviously need removing.
I have done this before with cutting and caustic soda on another frame but have moved house since and have NO OUTSIDE space and don't fancy risking it inside... and I am sure as shit my gf would not be too keen on the idea either.

The stems a Nitto one and the post a generic black one (I think).

If anyone has a blow torch or a something for heating the stem and getting it to pop out that they are willing to use then they can keep the stem and post.

Basically, I'm going to cut the stem out if not, I dont need the forks so will just replace them and the post I can live with for a while...

If this makes any sense, PM away....

  • if you don't want the stem, cut it off near the headset, undo headset, forks fall out with said stem insert inside.

  • Yep, that's the plan, seems a shame to waste a nice stem, if someone else has a bit more patience than me...

  • your best bet is caustic soda for the seatpost though.
    any friends got a garden?

  • Yeah, that will be the plan... don't care about the paint on the frame so open to a blow torch if one can be found...
Can't actually think of any friends with a (non communal) garden...

  • good, so you got it!

got mine too, it's very nice, much better than i thought

  • Ha yeah, you should see the damn wheels on the things... far too good for a pub bike...
I'm off on holiday soon but small bikes again soon ey?

  • I have a plumbers blowtorch but in Cambridge....

  • Ha, cheers... could of been good but I have already cut it out... ahhh well....
