The SRAM levers would need something as thin as modern road brake cable, there isn't much space spare. A 14g (2mm) spoke won't pass freely through the cableway, so a 1.6mm threaded rod would be the right size, or 10BA which is more likely to be easily available, you can buy that from model shops e.g. https://maccmodels.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=255_170&products_id=867&osCsid=570e92c26a131bd76bcb0ceb17f16c1e
