That 953 IF really annoys me. Just because it's a beater (er, with a $2500+ frameset) doesn't mean you don't grease the axle nuts.
That's just fetishising rust, or stupidity/ignorance of basic bike maintenance. It might be the latter, given that the chain also needs to lose a link and gain some tension.
