  • Went to Sagar in Hammersmith last night. Had cycled past every day for the past 4 months but not stopped. Why oh why?

The starter was proper South Indian breakfast food - Sev Puri - tiny pancakes smothered with yoghurt, onions, spices, chutney and then sprinkled with fried noodles. A perfect mixture of crispiness, crunch, cool, tang and spiciness.

For the mains, my lentil and rice dosa was perfect. Crispy on the outside, warm and soft in the middle and stuffed full of delicious chopped veg. James' paper paneer dosa was no less than 3.5 feet long and drew gasps from the other punters and soon after, groans from him.

We hardly needed anything else but also devoured several bhajee dishes - aubergine (out of this world), suki (interesting little green veg with coconut), mixed veg (hot and comforting with delicious rich spices). All of this came with generous potions of broth-like sambar and coconut chutney.

This will definitely become a rival to Saigon-Saigon on wintry bike rides home.
